THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER BY ANA BOIX

In 1537 two boys were born the same day in London; one child was a prince and the other was poor.

The prince was Edward Tudor and he lived in the Wesminster Palace because his father was the king of England.

The other boy was Tom and he lived in a room near Pudding Lane, a poor neighborhood near the London Bridge, his family was poor.

Tom asked for money in the street to eat and if one day he did not bring money home, his father got very angry, and sometimes he did not have anything to eat. Instead, Edward was rich and had everything he wanted: food, games…

One day, Tom went to the palace to see the change of shift of the guards and he met Edward and he became friends and they were playing together. At the time of going home, Edward had the idea of changing to be Tom a few days and changed clothes. Edward went to the streets to play, to the river to swim and was happy, but when the night came he did not know where to eat or where to sleep and he started looking for Tom's house because he was tired.

Tom went to Edward's room and was happy because he could eat, had clothes, and could be with all the servants.

Edward's father became ill and decided that he had to pass the crown to his son and Tom could not say anything since Edward had not returned to the palace.

Edward told Tom's mother the story and the day of the king's coronation they went to see the parade and when Tom passed his mother called him and Edward said he was the king.

All the people looked and did not know what they were saying but Tom said it was true that he was not the prince and then the king said that who knew where the great seal was kept, that only the prince knew and Edward said he was in his room so it was known that he was the prince.

Tom and his family went to live in the city and were very good friends.

King Edward was very good with all the people because he knew what it was like to be poor and he died very young but everyone remembered the story of the prince and the poor.
